West Palm Beach Chiropractors :: FAQ

Like many other West Palm Beach chiropractors, we hear many questions from new and current chiropractic patients. Here are some of the most common questions and answers...

What is Chiropractic?
West Palm Beach chiropractors FAQ

Chiropractic is based on the natural, inborn laws of the body. Dr. Morgen and many West Palm Beach chiropractors believe chiropractic is as natural as the sun rising and setting every single day. The brain is the master controller of all functions in our body. It directs every muscle, tissue and gland to do every single thing our body is suppose to do--every moment of every day. The brain communicates with the body through the spinal cord, which is where nerves originate and branch out just like roots from a tree. Every muscle, tissue and gland is plugged into what we call the central nervous system. Our life force (nerve flow) travels through this system, providing the body with the ability to function at its optimum level.

The spinal column, which protects this core system, must be in proper biomechanical alignment to allow the nerves free and clear access to all corners of the body. When nerve impulses and messages are cut off by a spinal misalignment (subluxation) in the spine because no matter how simple or severe they may be, subluxations put pressure on nerves, thus interfering with proper nerve flow. Interference will cause your body to function at levels below your optimum health potential.

What is an adjustment?

A Chiropractic adjustment is the art of introducing a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a vertebra that is subluxated. Using the bony processes of the vertebra, it is mostly characterized by a dynamic thrust of controlled amplitude. The adjustment releases the vertebra back into its normal position along the spine, allowing proper nerve flow to and from the brain. The adjustment is delivered either by Dr. Morgen's hands or a specially designed instrument. Even West Palm Beach chiropractors must seek out the service of another one of their fellow chiropractors in West Palm Beach, FL to restore and maintain proper spinal function.

Why do children need chiropractic care?

Subluxations (spinal misalignments) interfere with life. Dr. Morgen and many other West Palm Beach Chiropractors believe it is imperative for parents to know that many times subluxations are the underlying cause of childhood and adulthood health problems. As parents, we want our children to have healthier lives. However, we need to know some basic facts about real obstacles to our children's health.

Subluxations halt the vital life flow we need to nourish us and keep us alive. A misaligned or subluxated vertebra puts pressure on the nervous system, thus interfering with the primary carrier of our life force. This pressure on the nervous system disrupts the body's ability to function effectively. Subluxations may occur at any time in our lives. For example, during the birthing process, difficult vaginal or obstetrical intervention (forceps, vacuum extraction or Cesarean), can cause subluxations. Such procedures often disrupt the integrity of the delicate infants spinal column, altering the function of the nerve fibers emanating from the upper neck area.

Goffried Gutmann, M.D., one of Europe's most prominent researchers, has reported that modified nerve impulses can contribute to a lowered resistance to infection. Based on a study of over 1000 infants and children, Dr. Gutmann reported that increased susceptibility to ear, nose and throat infection is one of the most common consequences of upper neck problems. Dr. Gutmann contends that the spinal mechanics should be evaluated in every newborn.

Many times children have accidents and parents may believe that they are fine because there is no external evidence of damage. Spinal subluxations sometimes don't signal an obvious symptom. The earlier children's spines are checked, the earlier problems can be detected, preventing health problems from occurring and becoming serious.

What is the New Patient Orientation?

The new patient orientation is an important gathering of patients, their families and friends in our office. The purpose of the orientation is to take the time to give each patient the concepts and understanding of the Chiropractic principles, to demonstrate them and to fully explain what we lovingly call "The Big Idea" of what Chiropractic is all about. When our patients get "The Big Idea", they get the best results in the shortest amount of time. We have made the New patient orientation a special event in everyone's program for this reason.

What should I expect on my first visit?

From the first minute you walk in our West Palm Beach Chiropractic office, the emphasis will be on you. We are dedicated to providing you and your family with the finest compassionate, loving, personalized care possible. Your first visit will consist of an extensive consultation with Dr. Morgen, followed by a computerized analysis of your spine and an examination, which consists of testing for the 5 components of a subluxation. X-rays are usually taken to confirm and pinpoint the area(s) of subluxation.

After Dr. Morgen reviews your X-rays a comprehensive report will be given to you and your spouse on your second visit which is followed by your first spinal correction (adjustment). By the second visit, you will have all of your questions answered including if yours is a chiropractic case, how long your care will be, how often you need to come in and the cost involved including what your insurance covers and what you (if any) are responsible for.

Will my insurance cover chiropractic care?

There are many insurances that do cover Chiropractic care. However, it would be very difficult to break down all the insurances individually due to the large amount of insurance companies and the variation of coverages.

We accept most insurance plans and are more than happy to verify insurance coverage and let you know prior to beginning care what amount, if any, you'll be responsible for. This way there are no incurred fees and no surprises to you.
